The Way of Tea (or Cha Dao) is an ancient meditative practice, one of shamans and sages, in which we are offered the opportunity to cultivate space and enter into the calm center of the present moment. Sitting with tea as the early Daoists did connects us with ourselves, Nature, community, and ultimately—Spirit, through subtle senses and an awakened presence. A tea ceremony is a chance to honor the sacred and the mundane, to calm our minds, open our hearts, and rinse off the dust of the world as it’s said.
Tea (Camellia sinensis) is known as the mother of all herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine; a sacred plant revered by humans since as early as 4,000 BC. She is a gentle and nurturing spiritual balm, amplified when we are present and open to receiving her medicine; activated when combined with hot water and poured into our hearts. Tea meets us exactly where we are and ushers stillness from deep within.
