Embodied Nature: A Clay Workshop to Connect with Earth and Self w. Lisa River Schenkelberg

Join artist and eco-therapist Lisa River Schenkelberg for this experiential outdoor clay workshop in which participants will be invited to explore themes of interconnectivity, interdependence, diversity, community and co-creativity. Through engaging with various clay-based sensory awareness exercises, participants will be supported in deepening their connection with their bodies, with each other and with nature. This workshop is intended to inspire awareness of our elemental nature; our rootedness within the Earth; our shared connections; and the infinitely diverse ways that nature takes shape and finds expression within each of us. There will be space for each participant to create at least one clay form inspired by their experiences throughout the workshop.

At the end of the workshop, the finished forms will be collected and safely stored to be wood fired by Lisa at a later date. Once the pieces have been fired, all participants will be notified and will have the option to register for a closing ritual. All those who choose to participate in the ritual will collaborate together in assembling the finished fired forms into a temporary altar installation with the intention of acknowledging our diverse voices and the collective affirmation of our shared interdependencies. At the close of the ritual, participants will have the option to keep their ceramic forms.

The closing ritual is optional and is not required in order to participate in the workshop. All clay will be provided for  and no previous experience with clay is necessary to participate. The workshop will be held at the Sulphur Springs picnic area in the South Chagrin Metroparks. Further details and directions to the site will be provided upon registration.
